00:01:03: You know?
00:01:03: I wasn't born growing up And when I was student In high school so from the ninth grade nine nine till twelfth grade talking to you out of my own experience.
00:01:24: Who is Alexandra Becker, the person behind this project?
00:01:28: So like I said before...I am a teacher in Frankfurt Germany but i'm originally from Romania from Brasov From beautiful city of Brasova which is in Transylvania.
00:01:39: You know probably heard about Dracula This what everybody knows about my city.
00:01:44: So actually Dragla's castle is just ten minutes away, ten kilometers from my hometown so he used to be my neighbour.
00:01:53: But yes joke.

00:02:04: And what i can say about me...I love everything that this beautiful music Good movies.
00:02:12: I love nature, animals and reading And photography.
00:02:21: So what kind of books do you like to read?
00:02:30: As long as the book is good i don't really have a favorite.
00:02:34: i love horror so i love Stephen King.
00:02:38: he's my favourite author also because his writing about the horror which is in ourselves.
00:02:48: So, actually his idea that real horror comes from people not from supernatural and I think he's best characters are children who're being bullied.
00:03:04: And i think this...his character so realistic just because himself was a bullied boy at when he was young.
00:03:17: So you also had the experience of bullying in your childhood?
00:03:22: Unfortunately, yes I did so till i was fourteen.
00:03:27: ,I had a very happy childhood.
00:03:29: .i had alot friends ,a lot of close friend ,alot real friends.
00:03:34: we played alot and shared alot interest with spend alot time outside together, you know because I come from another century where we used to spend a lot of time outside.
00:03:50: We didn't have any mobile phones or computers.
00:03:54: so we spent lots of times outside and i really had great friends.
00:04:01: And then at some point in Romania You are changing schools when your fourteen So you're going from the primary to secondary, so do high school in the ninth grade.
00:04:15: and In that summer something happened.
00:04:19: That completely changed my whole life after death.
00:04:24: What happened?
00:04:26: Well what happened is I got sick.
00:04:30: I Got a diagnosis of cancer which no one should get at least fourteen-year old kid.
00:04:39: and that experience, the experience of being sick changed my whole life.
00:04:45: And not just being sick but because I also changed schools... Because in Romania like i said before you change schools after the eighth grade.. ...I had completely new colleagues classmates and these classmates didn't know me from Bullied.
00:05:07: I was really, really hard bullied by them because i was sick Because I had cancer.
00:05:14: Because I was going through chemotherapy and I lost my hair And yeah...I was bullied because of that.
00:05:24: Oh!
00:05:24: That's so horrible.
00:05:27: Yeah..That Was Really Horrible.
00:05:29: Yes Unfortunately
00:05:33: I think it is really worst thing.
00:05:38: Why are they like so mean and that's so evil?
00:05:45: And what did the do?
00:05:47: oh Where should I start you know, So i was going through chemotherapy.
00:05:52: That means that You lose hair.
00:05:55: It Was at least Like this twenty eight Years ago when I Did that and uh...I was wearing a cap and sometimes They would just pull The cap out from my head.
00:06:08: Sometimes, you know because I was very weak.
00:06:11: I just had a small bag... ...I couldn't carry all the books and notebooks so i only have one notebook that I used to write in.
00:06:20: And yeah.. I could not walk too much.
00:06:23: and sometimes they would say Alexandra don´t run your surgery with burst and stuff like this.
00:06:33: How did you deal it?
00:06:36: Oh, you know at the beginning I tried to talk them.
00:06:39: I tryed find out why they are doing this.
00:06:43: because yeah...I was a kid i was fourteen years old and couldn't understand WHY they were doing that to me?
00:06:50: Because I haven´t done anything for them.
00:06:53: And um..at some point I just realized thats not going change anything.
00:06:59: They will not give an answer cause they didn´t know why they did it.
00:07:05: probably for gaining attention.
00:07:09: For being the stronger one, you know?
00:07:13: The stronger ones against someone who is weaker than them and children are children teenagers or teenagers.
00:07:22: You know I also see this as a teacher.
00:07:25: Children can be extremely evil to each other and mean to eachother.
00:07:32: I also try to talk with them and understand why they are doing this.
00:07:37: The situation is like in nature, many animals are the same you know when one of them feels weaker.
00:07:46: They're taking advantage from that At some point.
00:07:51: i just left it away because i realized how much I talk to them and i try to make them understand that they are hurting me.
00:08:04: And
00:08:05: what I did, I just ignored them...and um..I listened a lot of music!
00:08:11: I had my earphones and I listen to music during the breaks so I don't have to listen to them.
00:08:19: Yeah this is where music started or actually continued Strength to give me strength.
00:08:29: I mean it was the beginning when I was a child, i just loved music and just for yeah Just doing something and listening to music while doing that When I was in hospital And when I Was during chemotherapy Music also became more.
00:08:49: It gave me strength To go through this very difficult period and to survive.
00:08:57: And during high school and the period I was bullied, it also gave me strength.
00:09:05: It helped to survive bullying which is a very difficult thing.
00:09:12: Is there any specific music that you were listening in this time?
00:09:17: Yes!
00:09:19: The music since I was ten years old Kelly Family.
00:09:24: It was also one of the motifs.
00:09:27: I was bullied as well.
00:09:29: Also because i was a Kelly Family fan and i also listened to Abba which is not cool too ace-of-bass.
00:09:39: so these were three bands that i used to listen but only to them, i also use to listen to Radio Brasov.
00:09:49: it's very popular radio station in my town at that time.
00:09:55: So this is what I listened to and This was also why i was bullied as well, so i wasn't bullied just because i was sick And didn't have any hair ,i was also bullied for the music .I Was listening too !and gave me strength.
00:10:12: Wow you were bullied Because You Were Listening To The Same Music That Inspired You In Doing This Project.
00:10:18: Yes, exactly.
00:10:19: That is kind of irony isn't it?
00:10:23: If you think about it like twenty eight years ago I was bullied for listening to Kelly family and now the same Kelly family.
00:10:32: so someone from them like Michael Patrick inspired me in doing this project not just inspiring but he's also supporting us.
00:10:47: So, yeah that's the kind of irony all this isn't it?
00:10:52: And on other side is why feels for me like a circle closing and also thinking well old pain I suffered from bullying back then just didn't make me an unhorrible person.
00:11:11: actually i could change and suffering into hope.
00:11:15: This is what I'm trying to do right now with you, when this podcast... No matter how hard people made your suffer.
00:11:30: You don't have become like them!
00:11:32: You can use these suffering and transform it into something beautiful or better Like i did transforming it into hope for children.
00:11:46: Because I've been through this and i understand you, how is feels like to be bullied?
00:11:52: How do feel lonely and think that there's nobody there listening to you or thinking something wrong?
00:12:06: And this is the reason you are being bullied.
00:12:08: No, You didn't do anything wrong it's just the others.
00:12:12: they're just bullies.
00:12:16: Actually there were weak persons because if your a strong person and have something else to do then don't Do bad things to weaker persons.
00:12:28: Were
00:12:29: u all alone?
00:12:30: Was there any other thing that gave you strength besides music?
00:12:36: Fortunately, I was not all alone you know.
00:12:39: so classmates.
00:12:40: okay they were evil.
00:12:42: They were mean but i had a very good bank colleagues and my colleague she was also bullied like me.
00:12:49: So we found each other, that's to say.
00:12:51: And I also found some other girls from other classrooms who are also being bullied in their own classrooms.
00:12:58: so you know what i learned from my experience is that life will always bring similar people together and that you're actually never alone even when your maybe for a short period of time but you have to keep your eyes on the heart open there'll be someone like you who will help you.
00:13:19: So no, I was not completely alone and um...I still have these friends in my life even now after more than thirty years And i'm very very grateful for them For them still being in my live.
00:13:34: Yeah what else gave me strength besides music?
00:13:37: Reading helped a lot because reading helps you just the reading forgetting about real world Going through this world in the books.
00:13:50: I really loved it.
00:13:52: and Yeah, my animals.
00:13:55: back then i also had parakeets And a cat.
00:14:00: so yeah This is what was Also giving me strength and of course My family and Also my faith?
00:14:10: I also used to pray A lot.
00:14:13: that also suited my heart a little bit.
00:14:19: Okay, so that was my experience.
00:14:23: What about you Naftib?
00:14:25: Have we experienced bullying have been bullied?
00:14:29: No I never experienced that.
00:14:32: Oh then you are lucky one.
00:14:33: Thanks God.
00:14:35: Yeah.
00:14:37: And what about you Superman?
00:14:43: But there was a girl in our class, we were like intensive class.
00:14:53: She also from India and she got bullied because of her skin color And she was smart.
00:15:05: I think that's the main reason why she was bullied Because she is the smartest one in this class.
00:15:10: The other girl who was bullying her Couldn't accept the fact that she was very smart.
00:15:17: Yeah, and I think this skin color will just aside.
00:15:22: Yes And yeah what do you think about it?
00:15:27: It's really bad.
00:15:30: I Will always love to help who is like bullied.
00:15:41: Yeah, you know what?
00:15:42: The problem is I saw this from the beginning and... ...I always tried to get in between.
00:15:49: I try to talk with a girl who was bullying other girls from India but it doesn't matter if her child that has been bullied tries to talk to the bullies or if a growing up teacher tries do that they will not listen.
00:16:08: So when it was really, really bad.
00:16:11: I mean she made some racist comments about her.
00:16:16: so She was expelled for two weeks and You know, she didn't understand a thing When she came back?
00:16:26: She was like but she's not white.
00:16:30: And i said yeah okay you didnt understand the things.
00:16:35: The most important think is that You talk to someone, I mean if you are being bullied.
00:16:42: When i was bullied back in the day... ...you know..I didn't tell anyone because.... ..i thought it's my mistake!
00:16:50: I was doing something bad and i was ashamed.
00:16:54: Now i knew that this is not a case And its very important for me to tell somebody.
00:16:59: If your in school tell teacher , i never told anybody And no teacher did anything for me.
00:17:07: But today, we have more awareness about bullying.
00:17:12: So please if you see someone as being bullied or yourself being bullied Please talk to some one because this kind of bullying especially it happens on a daily basis.
00:17:25: It can leave really bad scars and these scars in our souls are the worst kind Because You cannot see them from outside And they keep hurting, you know.
00:17:40: I see it's been a long time since i was bullied but... It still hurts now when im thinking about it.
00:17:47: Those cars are there and.. I don't think anyone could remove them.
00:17:56: So this is very important to be supportive.
00:17:59: if someone being bullied Talk to them, show that you are not alone and also please talk to a growing up.
00:18:07: It doesn't matter if it's teacher or parent or neighbor an older sibling something.
00:18:15: What would you do, Sukman?
00:18:21: I support them always.
00:18:26: who is like bullies?
00:18:27: i will say why they are doing this.
00:18:30: If we do again then im going to principle.
00:18:34: Okay, yeah.
00:18:35: That's a very good argument.
00:18:36: just threatened them.
00:18:39: Fortunately most cases this is the only thing that works.
00:18:44: Yeah And well what about you?
00:18:50: enough deep?
00:18:51: What do think?
00:18:51: what can we do against it?
00:18:54: I will also do the same as hook man and I Think we shouldn't be afraid of them.
00:19:02: Yeah
00:19:04: okay so That's about it from us.
00:19:08: From now, if you feel the need to talk just leave a message.
00:19:15: Tell us what do think.
00:19:16: tell us?
00:19:17: If there is something more that needs to be addressed and Or we just need to talked someone don't forget.
00:19:25: You are not alone.
00:19:26: they're also Thousands of people out there, thousands of children that are going through the same things as you do.
00:19:35: So... You're not alone and keep on fighting!
00:19:39: Be
00:19:39: brave!!
00:19:40: And YOU are NOT around.
00:19:41: just reach out if you need help.
